| PreserVision (formerly known as Ocuvite PreserVision) is a uniquely formulated supplement rich in antioxidants to help preserve your eye health.
Use:
PreserVision contains high levels of beta-carotene, vitamins C and E and zinc.
Normally when oxygen is used up in the body, a small amount of metabolic by-products are generated.
These by-products are collectively known as "Reactive Oxygen Species" (ROS) and include free radicals. When present in excess free radicals have the potential to
damage cells.
In the human eye the retina is essential in enabling you to see clear sharp images.
The retina is a light sensitive layer of tissue at the back of the eyeball.
Metabolic turnover of oxygen is particularly high in the human retina and this increases the likelihood of more ROS being generated.
Normally, the human body has sufficient internal defence mechanisms to be able to neutralise these ROS,
thereby protecting susceptible tissues such as the retina from their harmful effects.
As we get older our natural defence mechanisms are weakened.
Other factors such as smoking, pollution, exposure to intense light and inadequate diet may also contribute to increasing the production of these harmful ROS.
Based on scientific research, PreserVision has been formulated to provide optimum levels of vitamins and minerals, which have antioxidant properties.
Vitamin C is a water-soluble dietary antioxidant and free radical scavenger. It is found naturally in foods such as citrus and soft, fruits leafy green vegetables and potatoes.
Vitamin E is a lipid-soluble dietary antioxidant which helps maintain cell membrane integrity and is abundant in the retina. It is found in vegetables, fat spreads and cereal.
Beta-carotene is a fat-soluble antioxidant, which acts as a precursor to Vitamin A.
Main dietary sources include yellow and green (leafy) vegetables and fruits (carrots, spinach, broccoli, peppers, pink grapefruit, tomato juice, peaches).
Zinc acts as a co-factor in several enzymatic pathways which limit oxidative damage.
